Your health data stays in the Health app
Last updated 18 October 2026
CodeSmash Lab is an iPhone game app that gets you moving with data from the Health app. It has no ads and no third-party analytics tools, and it does not track you across other apps or websites. Health data and the play history on your device never leave it. Games with leaderboards use a game account at Game Center, described under Game account.
What the app reads from Health
With your permission, the app reads the following to show missions, figures and stats on the Health tab.
- Steps
- Walking and running distance
- Flights climbed
- Exercise time
- Sleep
- Heart rate
- Resting heart rate
- Heart rate variability (HRV)
- Walking heart rate average
- Walking steadiness
- Workouts and workout routes
The app asks Health to let it know when your step count changes, even while the app is closed, so the day's missions stay current. What it reads is only shown on screen. The app keeps no copy of its own and sends nothing off the device.
What the app writes to Health
When you finish a walk you started in the app, the app saves it to Health as a workout with its route and its check result. The distance is saved only for walks that pass the check. All of this happens only if you have allowed the app to write. The app never edits or deletes anything else in Health, and you can view and delete saved walks in the Health app.
Location and motion
The app uses your iPhone's location and step counting only during a walk you start yourself, including while the screen is locked or you switch to another app during that walk, to check that it is a real walk. The app only asks for "While Using the App" location access and does not use your location when you are not walking. A walk in progress is not written to the device.
What is stored on your device
- Play history: which games you played, how many times, for how long, and when you last played
- Achievements you have unlocked
- The app's notification inbox and your notification settings
- The profile photo or character you picked
- The latest game list and cover images the app loaded
This data stays in the app's storage on your iPhone and is included in your device backups (iCloud or a computer) according to your device settings. It is never sent to us.
Internet connections
When you open the app, it loads the game list, descriptions and cover images from CODESMASH's Game Center server (center.game.gamification.in.th). These requests carry no health data, no play history and no identifier for you or your device. The server only sees the ordinary connection details every internet request has, such as your IP address.
Each game is a web page loaded from the internet and opened inside the app. The app sends no health data or play history to the games. Whoever hosts a game's web page sees the same ordinary connection details, and a game's web page may remember your progress in the game on your device, as websites normally do.
Some games let you play a friend online, which sends your moves through the game's server while you play. This includes no health data or play history from the app.
Game account
Games with leaderboards use a game account at CODESMASH's Game Center. The first time you open one, the app asks you to sign in with Apple or play as a Guest, and uses that account for every game after that. When you open a game, the app gives the game a pass for your account, so the game can send your results to it without asking you to sign in.
Sign in with Apple: Game Center keeps the user identifier Apple provides, your name, and your email address if you choose to share it when you sign in. If you choose to hide it, this is a relay address Apple creates for you. Your name starts as the one on your Apple Account, and the app lets you confirm or change it when you sign in, and change it later under the Profile tab → Game account. This name is shown publicly on leaderboards and on player pages in Game Center. Your email address is never shown to other players; our team only uses it to look up your account, for example when you contact us for help.
Play as a Guest: you don't sign up. Game Center creates a guest account and keeps your results with it. Guest accounts don't appear on leaderboards. You can sign in with Apple later, and your Guest results move into that account.
An account you sign in to with Apple is the same account you use in Shio Jump, Shio Tower and Game Center on the web, because Apple gives every app from our team the same identifier for you.
The results a game sends to your account include your score, the outcome of the round, when you played and in-game stats. Game Center also records every round you start against your account for the team's play statistics, such as how many rounds were played and by how many players, and keeps the IP address with each result for 30 days before deleting it. None of this includes health data or the play history on your device.
Gold: an account you sign in to with Apple earns Gold by playing and from in-game quests; Guest accounts don't. Gold has no cash value and can't be bought with or exchanged for money. In the app you can see your Gold on the Game account screen and spend it to change your name: the first change is free, and later changes cost the Gold the app shows you before you confirm. Game Center keeps your Gold balance, the history of Gold earned and spent, and the old and new name of each name change with your account.
On your iPhone, the app keeps your game account sign-in in the iPhone's Keychain, which stays even if you delete the app, so reinstalling the app brings back the same account. To sign out, go to the Profile tab → Game account.
Permissions the app asks for
- Health to read and write the items listed above
- Location (While Using the App) during a walk you start yourself
- Motion & Fitness to count steps during a walk
- Notifications created by the app on your device, for example a reminder at 20:00 on days you have not reached your goal, or when you unlock an achievement. No server sends notifications.
- Photos to pick a photo from your library as your profile picture. The photo you pick is copied into the app's storage and is never uploaded.
Apple Watch and Live Activity
The CodeSmash Lab app on Apple Watch starts, pauses and ends walks from your wrist, talking directly to your paired iPhone. During a walk, progress appears on the Lock Screen and in the Dynamic Island through a Live Activity, which is updated on the device and does not go through a server.
Deleting and controlling your data
- Turn off location, Motion & Fitness, notification and photo access at any time in the Settings app, under CodeSmash Lab.
- Manage Health access and the walks the app has saved in the Health app: tap your profile picture, then look for the section about apps.
- Delete the app to remove everything in its storage. Walks already saved to Health stay in Health until you delete them there, and your game account stays until you delete it as described next.
- Delete your game account in the app under the Profile tab → Game account. Game Center immediately deletes your name, email address, Apple identifier and sign-in history, closes your Gold, and removes your results from leaderboards and your history. An Apple account is also gone from Shio Jump, Shio Tower and Game Center on the web, because it is the same account, and Game Center asks Apple to revoke the app's sign-in. A minimal record remains: a random account ID, scores, games, dates and the amounts of Gold earned and spent, no longer tied to your name or Apple identifier and shown nowhere.
- If you can't delete your account in the app, or want other data removed, email the address under Provider and contact below.
